Christine Waanders, Ph.D.
Psychologist

Christine Waanders is a licensed psychologist who specializes in treating young children (ages 2 to 10) and their families. She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Carolina in 2002.  Dr. Waanders completed her psychology internship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she received special training in behavioral and cognitive-behavioral techniques, as well as family therapy and evaluation with preschool and elementary-aged children.


At Bryn Mawr Psychological Associates, Dr. Waanders conducts child and family therapy, developmental evaluations, behavioral consultation to preschool programs, as well as school observations and consultation for IEP’s and 504 plans when needed. She specializes in treating childhood anxiety, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as general behavior problems and adjustment difficulties in families.


In her work with families, Dr. Waanders explores and identifies the family dynamics and developmental issues that are impacting young children and their parents. She guides children and families to develop new coping strategies and helps them practice more effective and positive ways of interacting, to enhance and strengthen their relationships and general well-being. Dr. Waanders is a skilled clinician who approaches clients with great caring and respect, and who shows a wonderful ability to connect with both children and parents. She uses a variety of modalities for engaging children, including talking, drawing, writing, and play therapy techniques.


Dr. Waanders began her career at the Philadelphia Mental Health Center, first conducting outpatient therapy and psychological evaluations for Behavioral Health and Rehabilitative Services, and later serving as the Director of Children’s Services. Prior to working at Bryn Mawr Psychological Associates, Dr. Waanders was an outpatient psychotherapist at The Center in King of Prussia for 10 years.


In addition to her work in outpatient therapy, Dr. Waanders has worked three days a week since 2007 at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).  Dr. Waanders is one of the lead clinical supervisors and trainers for a renowned school-based aggression prevention program at CHOP.
